Grocery Pickup and Delivery Reviews Part 2

This is my second post reviewing a couple of companies that I have used for grocery pickup and delivery. I have been writing about them in the order that I used them. Ironically, after my post about ShopRite I started receiving emails saying “we miss you” and such. It was almost as if they knew what I had written. Oh well! Today’s post will talk about Peapod by Giant and Walmart grocery pickup.

Peapod Grocery Delivery

After the twins were born even getting to the store to pickup the groceries was a challenge, so I thought I would give delivery a try. I saw that Giant had 60 days of free delivery coupon so I knew I had nothing to lose. The first issue I had was in signing up and figuring out where to put the coupon. The way the sign-up was worded I thought it was asking me to enter my credit card before I had even placed an order. I ended up calling and the person I spoke to was not the kindest as they explained what I needed to do.

The one thing that I loved about Peapod is that they offer prepped meals similar to meal delivery services. I tried two of them and we loved them both. I loved that everything was already cut and measured. Literally all I had to do was cook. Also, the price was reasonable. The meal we liked the best (pictured, although somehow I forgot to get a cooked picture, smh) was $20 and we got 6 adult servings out of it plus a couple of kid sized servings so you’re looking at less than $3 per person. I had to take a picture of the diced vegetables because there is no way on earth I could cut squash that well. The last time I cut a squash I vowed never to do it again!

Unfortunately, though this was where my positivity ends. The delivery guy was very unfriendly and my items were bagged horribly. See the picture of a bag of potatoes in the same bag as tomatoes, who does that?  Additionally, if you’ve ever shopped at Giant you know their prices are nowhere near comparable to other grocery stores. So while they offered a lot of discounts I didn’t feel like I was getting as much for my money as I have at other stores. It was worth it for the free delivery, but that was about it. Overall I would give them a 2 out of 5 because of the convenience and pre-prepped meals.

Walmart Grocery Pickup

My current love! What more can I say. I have my sister-in-law to thank for recommending this, because when I first heard of I thought you had to go in the store like when you’re pickup up online orders. However, it has been the most convenient of all that I’ve tried. At my local Walmart there are about eight parking spots for pickup so even if someone else is waiting there is a place for you to park.

The next great thing is their app. You get a notification when your order is ready and if you keep the app open it will track your progress to the store and alert them when you are there so you don’t have to do anything. They do have a phone number posted for you to call and let them know if you aren’t using the app. The only time we’ve had a problem is when I sent my husband and forgot to tell him my account was still under my maiden name so he had an extra wait. Otherwise, I don’t think I’ve ever waited more than about ten minutes.

I have had awesome customer service. The men who bring out the orders are always very polite and leave you feeling like that actually like their job. Maybe the only down side is they way they bag. They use a lot of plastic bags. For example I buy gallons of water to make bottles with and they put each gallon in a bag. However, we do use them for bagging diapers so it works out. The cherry on top is the free samples. I LOVE goody bags. Like I will go to an event just to get a free goody bag!  So imagine my surprise when I got a little gift bag after my first trip. You don’t always get them, but when you do they are really great, like this bag I got the day before Mother’s Day.

Finally, when you refer a friend both you and they get $10 off their order. So if you plan to use them I would love it if you’d use my referral link so we both can save some money. Obviously I am giving them a 5 out of 5 as they have been amazing every time.

I hope that these reviews have been helpful and if this something you’re interested in that you will know where to look. Thanks for reading!
