Motherhood Is…

In my short time of being a mother I have learned so much. And while I have always had a great appreciation for my own mother, I have added to that another level of respect for all that she did for me as a child and for everything she continues to do for me and my child.

As I sit here and think about what it means to be a mother the one word that stands out the most is selfless. Being a mom means that you are almost always putting someone else’s needs before your own because they are not able to take care of the needs themselves. I say almost always because you should try to take time out for yourself.

I suppose my goal of this post is to give a virtual high-five to all the moms out there who are working hard to take care of your family, your house, your job, your ministry, and anything else you are involved in. We deserve more than one day a year to celebrate and honor our hard work. But you know what, I bet if it was given, a great majority wouldn’t take it; mostly because we love being moms!

While I will admit to passing off diaper changing duties sometimes and telling my husband “It’s your turn to take her for a bit” I wouldn’t change being able to spend time with them for anything. That is motherhood!

Motherhood is:

  • Having someone who lights up when you walk in the room
  • Snuggling on the couch
  • Taking the occasional nap together because you know you need it as much as they do
  • Going out for ice cream just because it sunny and warm
  • Laying on the floor just to play knowing it will be difficult to get back up
  • Having the motivation to be the best version of yourself

I know how I feel about my mom and growing up I wanted to be just like her. Sure, as I grew up my ideas for a career changed, but I hope that as I get older I can be as wise and as grounded as my mom and I pray that as my baby girl grows up she will look to me for positive characteristics to emulate.
